'She sings about life and her music has an instant appeal and can be appreciated by a broad audience.' 4/5 Tsunami Magazine

'She is the Best new female artist to grace the folk/roots scene and her full length album Vivid sure proves that she is here to stay.' Alleyway Music.

With her trademark fingerpicking and strumming guitar style, warm husky tones, and honest, heartfelt lyrics, surfing singer songwriter Sue-Anne is one of the brightest stars in to shine on the contemporary folk/roots scene.

Some of her earliest childhood memories are of her Nan playing the piano and Pop on the piano accordion or guitar. They become her earliest influences, introducing her to the likes of Elvis, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash.

Sue-Anne received her first guitar at the age of 11 – a gift from her father the first time they met. It was from this time that her interest in music began to blossom. Despite losing his hearing in a freak accident two years later, Sue-Anne’s father continued sharing his musical knowledge with his daughter, nurturing her passion for songwriting and singing.

With no electricity on their farm near Agnes Waters, father and daughter spent much of their time playing music together, honing classics from the ‘60s and ‘70s like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Cat Stevens and Pink Floyd.

By her late teens, Sue-Anne had started writing her own songs, and had begun to develop her own style of acoustic/folk/roots.

Moving to the Sunshine Coast at 19 with her guitar and a dream, Sue-Anne surrounded herself with many talented musicians and immersed herself in the vibrant music scene. This move also enabled her to devote more time to another of her great loves, surfing.

A chapter in Melbourne proved the springboard for her music career, and she has since performed shows all around the world, produced three independent album releases, and performed at some of the world’s finest music festivals (including Woodford Folk Festival, Calgary Stampede, Vegoose in Las Vegas, and the Jack McCoy Surf Film Festival in Portugal) alongside artists such as John Butler, Ash Grunwald, Pete Molinari and Martin Harley.

Having made a career “playing music, travelling the world and doing what I love”, Sue-Anne moves from strength-to-strength with the 2008 release of her third album, a four-track EP titled Embrace.

The songs on Embrace are a blend of acoustic intimate songs and more upbeat, bigger-sounding tracks. They all share Sue-Anne’s down-to-earth sincerity and openness about life's trials and tribulations, and give a little taste of what's to come on her next album.

The EP was recorded and mixed in Brisbane by Jeff Lovejoy at Blackbox Studios, and is backed by a stellar line- up of musicians, including members of Brisbane's hot local act Afro Dizzi Act.

With her trademark smile and genuine enthusiasm for her craft, it’s pretty clear to see that Sue-Anne is doing what she loves, and doing a fine job of it too.

“As I embrace this moment, I embrace all the beauty in my life and I release, all the things that keep me from flying, flying…fly, fly, flyin’.”

from the title track to her new EP, Embrace.
